Cathedral St. Just

St. JustThe cloisters, part of the Cathédrale St-Just, date to the 14th and 15th Century. The cathedral was never finished. Only the choir and the transept were fully completed. The choir stands 130 feet tall, and it was constructed in the Gothic style.

It is in Act Two of Giuseppe Verdi opera Don Carlos that takes place in the cloisters of St Just, Don Carlos seeks comfort in prayer and turns in desolation to the tomb of Charles V. He vents his sorrow in tears as the woman he loves has just become his stepmother.
